Dare to Bloom
This photo tells a beautiful story. This plant has been on an adventure! She was propagated from a mother plant decades old, loved and cared for by Angeliki’s grandmother. A tiny clipping journeyed home with Angeliki from PA to NC, and grew into a beautiful and mature adult plant.
And she kept growing! Until she outgrew Angeliki’s home (mainly because her home is tiny. Plus Angeliki had a baby on the way - so the plant basically got the boot), and came to live with me.
Although beautiful, green, and healthy for as long as I’ve known her, this plant has never had a bloom.
In her new space at home with me, I was worried about her ability to survive. My house doesn’t get much natural light. In this questionable environment, the one thing I could offer love and space.
The past year has had its ups and downs. Saggy leaves when the weather turns, being moved from outside to inside, and back outside again. And yet, she continued to sprout new leaves and steams.
I never expected anything more from her, and love my plant just as she is.
Until this morning.
When she bloomed!
Let this be our reminder, with a change of environment, love, room to grow, and patience, we can all bloom. It’s okay to outgrow the space you are in today. We need highs and lows to reach our full potential.
Any one of us can appear happy, healthy, and even thriving on the outside, yet still, even in this place of abundance it is okay to ask yourself what is next!
Gratitude for where you are today, and excitement for future possibilities are not counter intuitive; I would argue they are the balance we all need to bloom.
