You need ‘em both & how to nurture each!
The idea is there are two types of people in our organizations. Not one is better than the other and we need both on our teams to thrive.
🚀 Superstars crave fast growth and are excited about upward trajectory.
🎸 Rockstars are specialists and are excited to go deeper in their area of expertise.
The typical workplace is programmed for superstars. Employees have been conditioned to believe the only way to grow is up, and that means our rockstars might feel pressure to follow a path that isn’t authentic to them.
Leaders must celebrate the growth of rockstars just as much as the superstars. Growth can be in all directions, and learning something and mastering it is growth just as much as moving up the ladder is.
The key is knowing which one rings true for your employees right now in their career and supporting the type of growth each employee desires.
Keep in mind, people can also evolve in our careers and shift between the two!
